Why I built Spot the Cue

“Is the person I’m talking to genuinely interested, or looking for an exit?”

Spot the Cue started at the dinner table. A family member who is autistic and lives with social anxiety was talking about how hard it is to tell whether the person you’re talking to is genuinely interested in what you’re saying, or quietly looking for an exit.

I’ve long been fascinated by the social psychology behind why people do what they do, and I knew the research had a hopeful answer that almost nobody gets to use. Reading people is a skill, and it improves with practice and clear, quick feedback.

So I built a place to get that practice: a real moment, your read of it, and a short note on why. Miscommunication runs both ways, so the app never pretends there’s one right way to be in a room. It just helps you notice more and guess less.

It isn’t therapy, and it isn’t a test of who you are. It’s somewhere to practice where getting it wrong costs nothing.
