Spot the Cue is a practice tool offered “as is”, for general education and self-improvement. It’s not professional advice. By using it, you agree to the terms below.
1. Acceptance
By accessing or using Spot the Cue, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the service.
2. What the service is
Spot the Cue is a web app for practicing the recognition of social cues such as tone, body language, subtext, group dynamics, and conflict. It’s intended for general learning and entertainment.
3. Not professional advice
The content is for practice and general education only. It is not psychological, medical, clinical, or other professional advice, and is not a substitute for guidance from a qualified professional. Real interactions are nuanced — use your own judgment, and seek appropriate support where needed.
4. No account needed
No registration is required to practice. You may optionally create an account (by email link) to sync progress across devices or to restore a purchase — see section 5. You’re responsible for the device and browser you use, and for any data stored locally on them.
5. Purchases, pricing and refunds
Spot the Cue has a free tier that stays free: Level 1 of all seven tracks, both reading tests, the cue glossary, the tone checker and three of the social stories — no account, no sign-up, no ads. Unlocking the rest (Levels 2–6 in every track, the learning paths and the remaining social stories) is a one-time payment of $19.99 USD. It is not a subscription, there is nothing to cancel, and it does not renew.
Who you are buying from. Purchases are processed by Polar (Polar Software, Inc.), which acts as the merchant of record — meaning Polar, not Spot the Cue, is the seller for your transaction. Polar handles payment, applicable sales tax and VAT, and invoicing. The purchase terms Polar presents at checkout govern the sale itself, and “Polar” is what will appear on your card or bank statement.
Refunds. Full refund within 30 days, no reason needed. The full terms — including how to request one, how iOS purchases differ, and how this sits alongside your statutory rights — are set out in the Refund Policy, which forms part of these terms. Kept there rather than repeated here so the two can never disagree.
What a purchase gets you. A perpetual, personal, non-transferable license to use the paid features. It is tied to the browser you bought in and to the email address used at checkout, so you can restore it on another device by signing in with that address. It does not include any promise of specific future features. If a refund or chargeback is issued, the unlock is withdrawn.
Buying in the iOS app is separate. Purchases made through Apple’s in-app purchase are handled by Apple under their terms, and refunds for those must be requested from Apple, not from us or Polar.
6. Acceptable use
Please don’t misuse the service. In particular, don’t:
- attempt to disrupt, overload, or attack the service;
- scrape it abusively or attempt to reverse-engineer it to cause harm;
- use it for any unlawful purpose.
7. Intellectual property
The site, its design, text, and original scenarios are owned by Justin Fernandez, trading as Spot the Cue. Photographs and video clips are used under free stock licenses (for example, Pexels and Mixkit). You may use the app for personal, non-commercial practice. Please don’t copy or redistribute the content as your own.
8. Third-party services
The service relies on third parties — including Google Analytics, Vercel hosting, and stock media providers. Their own terms and privacy practices apply to those parts. See our Privacy Policy for details on data.
9. Availability and “as is”
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We don’t guarantee it will be accurate, uninterrupted, or error-free, and we may change, suspend, or discontinue it at any time.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you actually paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim arose. Where the service is used on the free tier and nothing has been paid, our liability is limited accordingly.
11. Changes
We may update these terms; continued use after changes take effect means you accept them.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator of Spot the Cue is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
