Quick, detailed, question-asking replies suggest interest. Short, slow, one-word replies suggest lower engagement — but people are also just busy, so don’t over-read a single message.

Good to know: Reply latency is a weak signal on its own. Watch whether the effort is roughly mutual over a few exchanges.

Conversations fade for all sorts of reasons that have nothing to do with you. You don’t owe endless follow-ups, and neither do they. It’s fine to let a quiet chat go.

If it’s flowing, suggesting a low-key, public first meet-up is a natural next step. Keep it specific and easy to decline — a real invitation, with a graceful out.
